Beef and Broccoli

DSC_0074
Oh how I love Chinese food – so yummy!!!  But boy does it get expensive for my family of six!  Especially when everyone wants a different entree and then we have TONS of leftovers.  So I am starting to perfect my chinese food cooking abilities.  And lets just say – it pays to buy the authentic ingredients in the Oriental section of your grocery store!  And sugar – all recipes include sugar  ;)
Ingredients:
1.5-2 lb package of sliced beef for stir fry (or slice your own from your favorite cut of steak)
1/4 cup soy sauce
3 tsp corn starch
1 TBl oil
* 3 Tbl oyster sauce (found in the Oriental section)
* 2 TBl rice vinegar (found in the Oriental section)
1-2 tsp of brown sugar
1 Tbl garlic
1 10 oz bag of frozen broccoli florets

** instead of using oyster sauce and rice vinegar, there is a bottle labeled ‘Stir Fry’ sauce in my oriental section that I just noticed! DUH! I looked at the ingredients and it has these as well as some others that will add to the flavor.  I will be substituting that next time!

Directions:
Mix the soy sauce, cornstarch and oil in a bowl, toss in the beef and mix to coat.  Let sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
Place frozen broccoli in a glass bowl, cover and cook in microwave for about 6 minutes.
Heat a tablespoon or two of oil in a large skillet.  Add the garlic and meat and saute.
Pour in oyster sauce, rice vinegar and sugar, simmer until thickened.
Add broccoli to the skillet and toss to coat with sauce.  Serve over rice!  YUM!
